Half Horse, Half Alligator
Publisher: August House Author: Bill Mooney Audio lenght: 1 hour and 5 min.
This humorous reminiscence of the pioneering and settlement of the United States is set aboard a packet traveling up the Mississippi River. The American backwoodsman of the 19th century was often described as "half a horse, half an alligator", as well as a seahorse of the mountain, a flying whale, and a bear with a sore head. He was the Gamecock of the Wilderness and the Salt River Roarer. This production is based on Bill Mooney's one-man show that opened, oddly enough, in Vienna, Austria, and later debuted at the Players Theater in New York City, moving to Chicago's Harper Theater for an extended run, eventually touring the United States and Europe for 15 years. For Adults and Young Adults
