Compare the works of Paul Cezanne and Camille Pissarro in this audio tour by Antenna Audio. Based on the exhibition "Pioneering Modern Painting: Cezanne and Pissarro 1865-1885" at The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the audio tour explores the relationship between these two artists, their parallel creative paths, and their influence on modern art. Beyond providing insight into the works on display, the audio tour reveals how deeply the two artists admired each other. From the moment they met at the Academie Suisse in 1861, Pissarro and Cezanne maintained a close friendship and working relationship. Cezanne found a true friend and mentor in Pissarro, as the two men worked intermittently together from the early 1860s to the mid-1880s. The artists frequently painted side-by-side and openly shared ideas, even to the point of borrowing each other's paintings to copy particular techniques. The audio tour chronicles their friendship and examines how it impacted the artists' techniques and styles in their radiant still lifes, bucolic landscapes, and the occasional portrait.
The audio tour features commentary by J. Patrice Marandel, LACMA Chief Curator of European Painting and Sculpture, and Joaquin Pissarro (a great grandson of Camille Pissarro), who organized the exhibition and serves as curator of painting and sculpture at The Museum of Modern Art.
The exhibition is now closed, but if you would like to view the works while listening to the tour, you can obtain a copy of the exhibition catalogue through LACMA's online store at www.lacma.org.
